Facial Gua Sha is a gentle massage ritual that may help:
Relax facial and jaw tension
Encourage temporary de-puffing
Improve the application and spread of facial oil
Create a calming self-care routine
Leave skin looking refreshed after massage
Avoid promising permanent face slimming, wrinkle removal or medical “detoxification.”
Clean your face and Gua Sha tool.
Apply facial oil or moisturiser for sufficient slip.
Hold the tool almost flat against the skin—approximately 15° to 30°, not at a sharp 90° angle.
Use light, comfortable pressure.
Glide slowly in one direction, generally from the centre of the face outward.
Repeat each movement approximately 3–5 times.
Wash and dry the tool after use.
The technique should feel comfortable. Stop if it causes pain, strong redness or bruising. Medical guidance also recommends avoiding aggressive pressure, damaged tools, irritated skin, wounds, rashes and sunburn. (Cleveland Clinic)
Use arrows on the illustrated face as follows:
Neck: Glide gently downward along the sides of the neck; avoid pressing firmly over the front of the throat.
Jawline: Centre of chin → toward the ear
Lower cheek: Corner of mouth → toward the ear
Upper cheek: Side of nose → toward the temple
Under-eye: Inner under-eye → toward the temple, using feather-light pressure
Eyebrow: Inner brow → toward the temple
Forehead: Between the eyebrows → upward toward the hairline
Sides of forehead: Centre of forehead → outward toward the temples
Do not repeatedly rub the tool backward and forward.

Different areas benefit from different contact surfaces:
Larger Gua Sha: Better for the neck, shoulders, forehead and broad cheek areas. It covers more skin with fewer strokes.
Medium Gua Sha: A practical all-round size for the cheeks and jawline.
Smaller tool: Easier to control around the eyes, brows and temples.
A bigger tool is not automatically better. It should fit comfortably in the hand and follow the intended area without slipping.
An extremely thin Gua Sha may:
Feel sharp or uncomfortable against the skin
Be more fragile and easier to chip
Concentrate pressure onto a smaller edge
Be harder to grip when facial oil is applied
Choose a tool with a comfortable thickness, balanced weight and smoothly rounded edges.
Before every use, run a clean finger carefully around the tool.
Do not use it if you notice:
Sharp or uneven edges
Rough finishing
Chips, cracks or fractures
A broken pointed section
Loose decorative pieces
A surface that cannot be cleaned properly
Even a genuine crystal tool should be replaced once chipped or cracked.
Not every resin product is automatically dangerous. Properly manufactured and fully cured resin is generally safer to handle than uncured resin. However, an unverified resin Gua Sha may provide less certainty about its ingredients, curing quality, pigments and surface finishing. Uncured resin components can irritate the skin or cause sensitisation. (CDC/NIOSH)
For a face-contact tool, consider:
Is the material clearly disclosed?
Is it fully cured and odour-free?
Is the surface smooth and non-sticky?
Are the edges properly polished?
Does the seller provide care and material information?
Know what touches your skin. Choose a clearly identified, well-finished tool with smooth, rounded edges—and avoid products with unknown materials or questionable workmanship.
Do not use Gua Sha over active acne that is painful or inflamed, broken or infected skin, sunburn, rashes, recent facial procedures or unexplained swelling. Use extra caution if you bruise easily, have a bleeding condition or take blood-thinning medication; consult a qualified healthcare professional when unsure.
